The Duch Temple Facts

The Roman Duch Temple was built by Emperor Domitian and enlarged by Hadrian and Trajan, who built a monumental gate. Presumably, once covered in gold, the temple was covered with graffiti by Frederick Gaius and other 19th century travelers, dedicated to the last two emperors and gates.

The “souls” come from Kusha, the ancient Nubian kingdom.

East of the temple is the fortress on the hill of Ptolemy, now partially buried in the sand, with clay brick walls up to six meters high and dungeons of four or five floors.

Once the fortress protected the ancient city of Kisis, an agricultural village enriched with a forty-day road, where potters, jewelers, and brothels lived.
